How to Use Map View Effectively

Why the map matters

Construction work is local. The map view lets you see where planning applications are geographically, helping you identify clusters of activity and target the areas you want to work in.

Switching to map view

On the Planning Search page, the map appears on the right side of the screen alongside the results list. On mobile, use the List/Map toggle at the top to switch between views.

Reading the markers

Each marker represents a planning application, colour-coded by status: green for approved, amber for pending, red for refused, grey for withdrawn. Click any marker to see a summary popup with the title, reference, and address.

Using radius search with the map

Set a location and radius in the search filters. The map will show all applications within that radius. A smaller radius gives you a focused view of your immediate area; a larger radius shows more opportunities but covers more ground.

• 1 mile: very focused — useful in dense urban areas.
• 5-10 miles: good for local trades who do not want to travel far.
• 25 miles: a balanced default for most businesses.
• 50-100 miles: for trades willing to travel or covering rural areas.

Hover and click sync

When you hover over a result card in the list, the corresponding marker on the map grows larger. When you click a marker, the matching result card is highlighted and scrolls into view. This two-way sync makes it easy to move between the map and the list.
